The Master laid there for a moment before he responded to actually being abandoned. What if this was just a test? The Time Lord waited for an hour, and then another, and then two more, just waiting for him to come back. He didn’t want the Blue. Torvic wouldn’t have just left him to his freedom, would he? He was starting to itch as he came down from his high. He needed them, and they were gone with Torvic. The Time Lord sat to think for a moment, and left out a sigh.
Yet as he took in a deep breath, he caught a whiff of the TARDIS. This was all just a game! A test! Clearly he’d wasted time by waiting and he’d need to hurry or else be punished. So off he went, quickly getting to his feet. He let out a hiss as he had gotten up much too quickly again as his scars had tightened up over the years and they pulled as he moved to the where he thought the smell was coming from.
A wave of disappointment hit him as he saw the ancient blue police box down an alley. This wasn’t the time period for that, was it? As he stepped towards it, his eyes caught on a deep orange mark on the wall. Was that blood? It was at that moment that he moved out of the fog he’d been living in and remembered everything. That was his blood.
His hearts started to pound when he saw it was still there, and a filthy hand traced a filthy wall as he stepped toward it, tears coming to his eyes. It could all be a trick, but oh did he want it to be real. Just one good thing after all of this bad. A shaking hand reached up for the spare key behind the ‘P,’ and fumbled with it, attempting to get it into the lock and turn it. After a number of tries, the door finally unlocked and he pushed on it. A pleasant creak sounded as it opened and the Master let out a small sound of disbelief.
Without even putting the key back, the naked Time Lord fell in and landed on the grating, eventually crawling far enough in so that the door closed behind him. He allowed the tears to fall, leaving trails of partially clean on his grubby skin. Within minutes, sobs were echoing through him as he laid there in disbelief.
The Master was home.
